Tremors... What tremors?
Singapore's Meteorological Services Division said the first tremors were felt at about 11.50am after an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Padang in Sumatra. The epicentre was 50 kilometres north-northeast of Padang and some 430 kilometres south-west of Singapore. The second round of tremors occurred around 1.50pm after another earthquake, also measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, struck Padang. - CNA
I arrived at the office around 11.55am to find no one else in the office but the level warden at the end of the office and some ang moh lady at the far end doing her work. It is usual for the office to be only 1/4 full cuz 3/4 of the office work the UK shift.
Then I received a msg from my colleague to stay downstairs and not go up to the office cuz they felt tremors. Like wtf. I just took the elevator up 24 floors while the rest were being evacuated via the stairwell. So I went to look for the level warden and he explained to me that only our part of the office evacuated cuz nowhere else in the building felt the tremors but level 24. Thing is, there're 2 parts of level 24, one that face the sea, and one that face the rest of CBD. We face the sea (freaking good view), so we felt the tremors. OK. So I asked him if I should go down and he said there was no need to cuz he got the message that everything's ok. Fine. So I went back to my desk and started checking emails while the rest of the office were still walking down the stairs.
15 minutes later, everyone came back. With the legs weak going down 24 levels HAHAHA. But I was very sian cuz I missed the tremors. Usually I'll arrive at the office at 11.40am but I went to the bank today to settle my loans stuff, so I reached the office slightly later than usual, but still early for work. Otherwise, I would've felt the tremors! I don't wish to die, or for the building I work in to collapse, but I just want to experience how it feels like. Anyway, we got on with work at usual.
Went for lunch at 1.40pm. Saw a lot of people standing around. A colleague was pointing to a bunch of people and she went "Wah got queue!! What is it??". Figured those people evacuated their buildings. Thought of Daniel so I smsed him if he felt the tremors earlier, and he replied "it just shook again!!". A friend who works on level 24 then smsed me and asked me where was I cuz my office shook again. BUT IM OUTSIDE FOR GODDAMN LUNCH LA. Missed the tremors again!!!!!
Sian. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. It's a good thing to not feel the tremors I guess. But I just want to know how it feels like la.
Ok, I know there're casualties in Indonesia, and my entry may seem inappropriate, but I'm just saying you know?
Some Indonesian must have offended the big one up there. Ferries sink. Planes crash. Earthquakes. Tsunami. Damn jialat.
